Book Review: I Wanted You To Know by Laura Pearson

⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Quite simply this book made me cry more than any other book I’ve ever read. I read it in a day and literally spent the day sobbing. Sometimes books can do that to you. This may not be your idea of a pleasant pastime but I don’t say this lightly - it was without doubt my favourite read of the year.

#iwantedyoutoknow tells the story of Jess, a young single mother who discovers she has breast cancer. Propelled by a ticking clock Jess writes her daughter letters to tell her everything - how to love, how to lose, how to forgive, and, most importantly, how to live when you never know how long you have.

When I first read the blurb I thought I wouldn’t enjoy it. One woman’s first narrative about breast cancer. However its so wonderfully written as a story, with exceptionally rich characters and a plot that means you can do nothing but relent to keep on reading. This book could only have been written by somebody who has experienced the bone crushing torture of cancer, of a life stripped bare. It will tug at heart strings you didn’t even know you had. Go read it. But make sure you have an extra box of tissues.
